Parkland Terrace
is a significant alterations and additions to a single storey Federation era house; restoring and adding to the dwelling to accommodate for multi generation living. Designed by Sam Crawford Architects, the residence maximises its tight site through thoughtful design. The building’s exterior is un-assuming in its appearance, varied gables give the building a familiar prescience within its suburban setting.
The internal living spaces are spacious and bright, with occupants permitted to reconnect to the exterior courtyard spaces, via large sliding doors and high-level windows. Light is further punctuated within with a number of skylights, which provide light deep within the floorplan. Curved ceilings provide a backdrop for occupants to watch the fading light of the day.
A contemporary brick addition to the rear of the dwelling provides parking and a secondary dwelling space consisting of open plan living spaces and kitchen, and bathroom and bedroom spaces. The two buildings are connected by a enclosed yard space, which houses a modest pool area.
The selected materials demonstrate the histories of the residence. The break between old and new is emphasised with internal finishes. Heritage inspired styling is sympathetic to the original Federation era dwelling, whilst the modern extensions finishes provides the house with a level of sophistication, with bold colours juxtaposed against natural stone motifs.
